YOU Are the One You’ve Been Waiting For
Last week my client Annette had one of those awesome, rock-your-world moments. (I love that I get to witness those moments!)
We were reviewing – and celebrating – the changes she’s experienced in the last six months. In her words, she’s
- Happier
- More confident
- A better, more well-rounded leader
- Clearer on who she is and what she brings to the table
- Feeling much more grounded in her life
- Making great progress on three specific goals
There was a lot to celebrate!
And then Annette suddenly got quiet. She took a deep breath and said, “What I just realized is that I’m my biggest obstacle and my own strongest trailblazer.”
Yes!!!
And what’s SO cool is why Annette has experienced such major shifts and made so much progress on her goals.
She chose to get out of her own way.
That’s what made room for her trailblazer self to create a more confident, grounded, clearer, successful, and happier path.
We are all our biggest obstacles.
If you genuinely don’t care about the goals or changes you haven’t progressed with, no big deal.
But if you’re feeling stuck, stressed, frustrated, or discouraged, it’s time to get out of your own way.
Because we’re also all our own best trailblazer.
That means:
- No more excuses.
There will always be a dog trying to eat your homework. When you get out of your way, you’ll find a way around the dog.
- No more getting ready to be ready.
There will always be one more thing to do. When you get out of your way, it will be clear that you don’t need to have everything done to get going.
- No more waiting for the perfect time.
There will never be a perfect time. When you get out of your way, NOW becomes a remarkably good time.
- No more agonizing over what everyone else thinks (or will think).
There will always be naysayers. When you get out of your way, “everyone” turns into one or two specific people. And then it’s easy to see that their naysaying is actually about them, not you.
- No more “if-onlys.”
There will always be an “if-only” wanting to tempt you into blocking your progress. If only I were smarter, more energetic, had more savings, made more money, with a partner, single, more disciplined, less lazy, yada yada yada. When you get out of your way, you open up space for your strengths, skills, resilience, and courage to show up in full force. And they’re more powerful than any if-only!
Yes, getting out of your own way is scary and can feel vulnerable. But when you keep blocking your own progress, you’re guaranteeing that nothing will ever change.
Your trailblazing self knows how to navigate up, over, and around obstacles.
She/he is also courageous, persistent, and resilient.
Life is filled with challenges.
You can view roadblocks as a sign that it’s just not possible. That’s the getting-in-your-own-way choice.
Or you can choose to be the person who rises up to meet the roadblocks, knowing there’s more than one path to create what you want. That’s your trailblazing self.
So, take a deep breath in.
And exhale.
And now move out of the way so the other YOU can blaze a path down the trail that leads to your success and happiness.
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.” ~ Meg Cabot
